A Letter from Josie Marino

Dear friends,

Dane Street Playground
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about this amazing project. My name is Josie Marino and I, along with a group of neighbors and friends, have been hard at work to recreate the playground at Dane Street Beach so that all of our children can enjoy a new, safe, fun place in our community.

I’d like to explain to all of you why I am so passionate about this playground project. My daughter, Isabella Rose Marino, passed away at age 4 ½ of a very rare blood disorder. During her short life, from her family and friends to her classmates and teachers at Mrs. Alexander’s School, Bella brought so much joy to everyone around her.

Thanks to the Families of Mrs. Alexander’s, particularly Mark and Diana Cooper, the Isabella Rose Marino Endowment Fund was created to offer financing for community projects that embody the many things that Bella loved. The fund has given us the opportunity to provide the first $10,000 donation towards the playground project.

Bella, who was often hospitalized for days at a time, would light up when she was able to spend time outside. One of our favorite places to go was Dane Street beach, which she called “Bella’s Beach.” Dane Street beach, along with the attached playground, always made her so happy. I knew from the moment she passed away that revitalizing the Dane Street Playground would be the first project that I would take on in her memory.

Seven years after her passing, we were blessed with the birth of her brother, our son Luke. Now an energetic six year old, Luke has led me to visit playgrounds all over the state. Having seen so many beautiful, safe structures has opened my eyes to how badly in need this park is of revitalization.

It’s taken me a long time to get to the point that I could focus on a life that was magic instead of a death that was tragic. I am so thankful to have this opportunity and the support of my family, friends and neighbors to create a space for all of our children to enjoy.

Sincerely,
Josie Marino
